Fluffy Baby Blanket

 

I didn't make it with the socks for my MIL but I finished knitting the Fluffy Baby Blanket (as I named it) on the road and I weaved the ends in at the Motel, right in time for the Baby Shower!

I managed to take a photo before giving it away but I didn't think about measuring it... I can say that it was about large Bassinet size.

Anyway, the Mom-to-be was pleased with it (well, I guess she wouldn't have said otherwise anyway...) and she also liked the Baby Sweaters I gave her, especially this one.

Here are the instructions for the Fluffy Baby Blanket:

Yarn: Super Bulky Red Heart Baby Cloud. 2 balls Pink (CB), 2 balls White (CC) and 1 ball "Tutti Frutti" (CA)

Needles: 40" Circulars #13US (I used my wonderful addi TURBO that I bought a while ago to my favorite LYS)

With CA cast on 90 stitches. Do not join. Work back and forth.

Row 1-3: Knit. Cut CA.

With RS facing, join CB and K Row 1 across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Row 3: [K2tog] 3 times, *[yo, K1] 6 times, [K2tog] 6 times; repeat from * to last 12 stitches; [yo, K1] 6 times, [K2tog] 3 times.
Row 4: With WS facing, Knit across.

Rows 5-19: With RS facing, repeat Rows 1-4 one more time, then Rep Rows 1, 2 and 3 once more. Cut CB.

Wit WS facing, join CA and K 3 rows. Cut CA.

With RS facing, join CC and repeat the "Feather and Fans" pattern (K 1-19) as instructed previously. Cut CC.

With WS facing, join CA and K across 3 rows. Cut CA.

Repeat these 2 color sections 3 more times (= 4 times)

Bind off in Knitting loosely the third row of CA, and WS facing.

2AO-TUS - Update #1 + Baby Blanket

I am working on the body of the Two at Once, Toe-Up Socks now and guess what?

No laddering at all! How about that, huh? ;D

I really looked for some and if there is any I don’t see them probably because of the self-striped yarn… he he he

This yarn is a very “lifting self esteem” one! LOL

I am only half done on the Baby Blanket for our niece... (I haven't found a name for it yet)

I'd better hurry to finish it before the shower, tomorrow night! I am certainly going to knit in the car on our way North. A 4 hour ride, that should help...

Now, why in the world did I wait the "last minute" to cast on that Blanket?!!

Two at Once, Toe-Up Socks on Needles!

 

After postponing for too long, I finally decided to cast on the Two at once, Toe-up Socks I want to make for my MIL! I have always knitted Cuff-Down Socks but never Toe-Up... A Premiere here! I have only knitted the first row of increases and I realized that I am already in trouble! Somehow, I have a ridge on my cast on row when it is supposed to be Stockinette Stitch… And I have no idea of what I did wrong… ?!! I am using the help of the April's Tutorial and I am downloading the Knitting Help's Video about 2 circular needles as I am writing this post but it takes forever… (Boy, do I miss DSL!) I hope I am going to make it... So, I started over and it goes better this time. I must have done something backward at first though because the pattern says to knit on the front needle only, and for the first rows I think I have been knitting on the back needle... Not sure... So, I counted a lot on my common sense to make sure that I was knitting Stockinette on the right side of the work as I was a little confused by the instructions... I couldn't explain what I did but it seems to be right now... Maybe using 2 different colors needles might help to identify then more easily...(?) Unfortunately, mine are both the same color... I feel like tring the Magic Loop method later on, when I will be working on the cuff on these socks. Just curious... The toe of these socks looks a little funny so far though. It seems like I am making cat's ears but I guess once worn on the feet they will stretch. BTW, I am using Regia Spirit Color, a German self striping sock yarn (75% New Wool/25% Polyamide) made in Italy. So, I keep going on my "experimental socks"... Keep tuned for updates! 

 

It is all about Avocados...

If I were stranded on a desert island and could have only one food, it would be the Avocado. It is my favorite vegetable EVER!!! ...or should I say fruit?

I remember my Grandmother eating her Avocados filled with marmelade... YUCK!

To me, Avocados are best salty. As a little girl, I use to like them filled with olive oil vinaigrette. Now, I only add a little salt on top of mines and spoon them right in the peal, or I slice them in my salads!

Not to mention Guacamole of course! OLE!

Anyway, I just LOVE Avocados! And not only for their rich, buttery-smooth tasty flesh; there are also Avocado Health Benefits.

And... last but not least - well this month anyway - Avocados are GREEN!!! ;D

Green Easy Baby Cardigan Finished!

The GREEN Easy Baby Cardigan is finished!

This little Cardigan is worked hood down and I used Bernat Baby Coordinates, color Pale Green + a little of White, Daisy Yellow and Sweet Pink.

At first, I followed the instructions to the letter; I made 4 twisted cords to close the front of the Cardigan but then I realized that, although I think it is cuter that way, these cords are not really safe for a newborn's outfit, especially around the neck...

Besides, the front of the Cardi didn't close completely with the cords and I know from experience that a well closed Cardi wraps better a tiny body laying down and being carried around all day...

So, I removed the cords and I added 4 buttons instead.

Since there were no button holes, I made a short crochet chain and sewed it on the opposite side of the buttons.

And this is how it looks now!

I used the Daisy Baby Cardigan instructions to embroider the flowers and I added a tassel on the top of the hood.

I need to finish that Baby Blanket I am working on right now (my own design) for Friday, so Back to my needles!

GREEN Lifestyle

* Weekend is usually time for groceries, and this time I got really inspired by the GREEN section of the fruit/veggie department!

Instead of getting the fruits I usually buy in their regular color, I picked them (you guessed it) in GREEN! GREEN Apples, GREEN Pears, Limes instead of Lemons, GREEN Grapes,... + the regular GREEN veggie stuff of course!

I guess this can only be good for my "healthy lifestyle", right? ;D

So, thanks to Project Spectrum for its support! LOL

Green Easy Baby Cardigan is cast on!

No, this is not an outfit for Easter Bunny! ;D

* I cast on last night the Easy Baby Cardigan for a shower I am invited to on May 13.

I am using Bernat Baby Coordinates, color Pale Green.

Since, it starts with the hood and it is plain Stockinette Stitch, I thought it would be more interesting to "Art effect" the photo a little...

So, and since it has some nice GREEN features, I "hired" DD's Easter Bunny! :)

As you can see on the photo above here, although I have some gorgeous Stitch Markers now, I still cannot get rid of my good old "String-Of-Yarn-Stitch-Markers". I guess I am just too use to them... They are is still the most comfortable Stitch Markers I have ever used!

I guess I am becoming an old Lady with my habits... LOL

This is my "collection" of Green Needles.

Those might not be the sizes I am going to need to knit with this month but they are GREEN and I just like that photo! :P

* Susy and I are starting today our Treadmill routine together, through the computer! We agreed on 15 minutes/day for a small start...

Personally, I hope to drop off 20 extra pounds I added on during the winter... Too many good cookies and chocolate! LOL

My Amazing Lace Project

Rachel , one of the hosts of the Amazing Lace - Summer 2006, just told me that it was OK not to wait until Memorial Day to start and that lots of people are actually working on long-term projects that they began previously.

And then, all of a sudden, it hit me! The Lacy Pyramid Afghan I started about 2 years ago and didn’t have chance or courage to finish!!!

How could have not thought about it? And IT IS lacy!!! The Amazing Lace would be a great opportunity to finish that project!

So... the Lacy Pyramid Afghan it is!!!

It is not GREEN, blue (June) or purple (July) but it will match August colors, Neutrals/Black & White, as it is "Taupe" but by Labor Day, Project Spectrum will be over anyway...

Maybe you have seen that UFO it in my Flash your stash post…

This is how it looks right now, about 5% done...

Now, this is not going to keep me from making that Mauritius Pullover I finally had picked as my Amazing Lace Project! :)

Violets

First Violets in my garden!!!

I love Violet! Especially the Blue Violet. It is one of my 4 favorite flowers! (Daisy, Lavender, Violet and Tulip)

I had never seen White Violets before though... I didn't even know it was existing! LOL

In fact, I didn't know there were so many different kind of Violets!

I guess I have a lot to learn about Gardening, huh?

OK, even after digging the topic a little, I still have NO IDEA what kind of Violet is in my garden! I didn't plant those flowers, they came with the house... All I know is that they are pretty and I enjoy having them here! :)

I took these photos this morning as everybody had their nose in their coffee, I had mine in the grass... ;)

Very Project Spectrum, isn't it? What a beautiful deep GREEN color here! Exactly my kind of GREEN!

Mmmmh... I wonder how April would sing that... She made a awesome "Baby Blanket Blues" song that you can listen here! She is the one singing and beating with her bamboo needles. Amazing and catchy! :)
