I ran last night my first race of 2009 and I am glad that I was able to cover the whole 5 kilometers without walking at all. My finish time (27:52 minutes - overall avg pace 8:54 min/mile) was not what it used to be last year but it was not as bad as I had thought it would be, considering my level of training and my physical condition at this point.
After being held back by injuries all winter long, I have been easing my way back into running with a program for new runners that I had done before and had great results with. This week (#7) is about running 25 minutes non-stop (no walking) and I felt last night that it was time for me to jump off the treadmill and to rejoin the running crowd.
Although the race was on a course that I know pretty well for having trained and raced onto several times, it was not easy but I made it through and without being hurt - wearing new running shoes probably helped.
Now, my legs are very sore today - I could barely swim this morning - but it is good pain.
